Signal Fire

Near-black void, neon red, electric orange, amber neon, flash yellow
Near Black
#100200
rgb(16, 2, 0)
Warm near-black — a darkened ember before ignition
Neon Red
#FF0000
rgb(255, 0, 0)
Pure maximum red — danger, urgency, and raw intensity
Electric Orange
#FF4500
rgb(255, 69, 0)
Red-orange neon — heat at maximum visual energy
Amber Neon
#FF9900
rgb(255, 153, 0)
Vivid warm amber — the color of fire at its brightest
Flash Yellow
#FFFF00

Signal Fire is defined by its monothematic clarity — unlike multi-spectrum neon palettes that cover warm and cool frequencies simultaneously, Signal Fire occupies only the warm end of visible light. Neon Red, Electric Orange, Amber Neon, and Flash Yellow form an unbroken sequence from the longest visible wavelength (red) to the highest-visibility peak (yellow), rendered at absolute maximum saturation with no cooling influences. This is the color of combustion, of emergency signals, of the highest-alert states in every warning system humans have designed — the complete fire spectrum at neon intensity.

Because pure red (#FF0000) is simultaneously the most powerful warning signal and the weakest visible color in terms of human luminance sensitivity, Signal Fire manages its hierarchy carefully. Neon Red at the lowest value in the sequence reads as the anchor of danger; Flash Yellow at the highest value provides the maximum-contrast legibility endpoint. The gradient from red through orange and amber to yellow traces the actual visual experience of watching a fire from below: red at the core transitioning through orange and amber to the bright tips of flames.

Signal Fire is the natural palette for industries where urgency, action, and attention are direct product values: emergency services branding, cybersecurity products communicating threat response, sports performance labels, motorsport and racing, and any promotional material for competitions where winning is the primary message. In advertising contexts, red-to-yellow gradients consistently achieve the highest attention-capture scores in eye-tracking studies — Signal Fire takes this proven color psychology and amplifies it to neon intensity.

Designers should note that all four active colors in this palette pair poorly with each other as foreground/background combinations — Neon Red text on Flash Yellow background is technically readable but visually uncomfortable. The Near Black void is the correct base for all four neons, providing the contrast floor that makes each color pop independently. A productive application pattern is to use each color for a single distinct communication purpose — red for stop/danger, orange for warning, amber for caution, yellow for attention/action — creating a visual hierarchy within the alert language of the design system.
